This evening, I watched an advance screening of "Jesus Camp," a new documentary film that peeks into a training ground for America's conservative evangelical Christian movement: a summer camp for kids (as young as six!) that indoctrinates them into a life of proselytizing, tongue-speaking, home-schooling, Bush-loving right-wingers in "God's Army." Scary stuff. This film needs no narration or selective editing to show the fervor and determination of the adult camp leaders and the kids eating it all up. And the near-worship of a lifesize cardboard cutout of President Bush shows this is not just some wacky isolated summer camp: this movement has some high-ranking partisans.Interestingly, this film is being marketed to Christians (à la The Passion Of The Christ) as well as the usual secular indie audience. The devout might see this film as an admirable call-to-arms, while others might see a growing movement that is harmful for both its participants and the country.
Check out the trailer.

Doesn't this sound too much like what Islamic Fundamentalists are doing to children over there? This is scary no matter who's doing it or where.
Yea, my vote is on "harmful for both participants and country."
Thanks for stopping by earlier...
Hey, thanks for stopping by my new blog. Your review of "Jesus Camp" is what I had expected. I don't know if I'll see it. It will probably only make me angry. Just to let you know, I'm one who follows Jesus, but I think this kind of "camp" and teachings like this are crap. Thanks again for your comment.
I saw something about this film a few days ago. I found it disturbing - scary, even.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Yeah, the camp thing is creepy... Our church usually held a VBS for one week of the summer, where we did finger painting for a few hours and had cookies, and then went home.
This is WAY up there on the creep factor scale. Like VV said, is is difficult to watch this and not be reminded of the Muslims that teach their kids extremism from the cradle.
When they start training with AK's and bomb vests I'll get concerned.
I saw the preview, but I haven't seen the movie, so I'll have to wait to give my opinion of the documentary. I certainly think it's time for something like this. I know several Christians who have told me that they are about to backlash against the fundamentalists and their words and actions over the past few years. I find any group that teaches me not to think for myself pretty scary.
