Wayback Wednesday #20060712

Have you ever been in a silly mood, with good rock music blaring, props aplenty, and a Polaroid camera handy? This is a potentially dangerous combination. The resulting photos record a snapshot in time, but they could be quite embarrassing. Oh, well, the past is the past, right?

Let's spin the big wheel and see where we land today ...

Nineteen Seventy Nine!

Written on the back of these four Polaroids is "New York, January 9, 1979." This would be a Tuesday -- hmmm, a school night! Having fun with me is my high school pal, Brooklyn born and bred Roger. From the look of the albums laying around, we are probably listening to Led Zeppelin or Ted Nugent. That's a toy guitar I'm playing with. The hat is a paper party favor leftover from who knows what party. Those glasses -- probably from Spencer Gifts -- have a battery compartment which powers its "windshield wipers." All these toys are long gone now, and I've lost contact with Roger. On the bright side, the sideburns and mustache are long gone, and the 'fro has long since been tamed.

Up your nose with a rubber hose, Mr. Kotter.

You look like Epstein from that show.

Ha! I had that same big-ass Zeppelin poster. It was the centerpiece of a wall (7 1/2' x 14') that was completely covered with Zep pics.

The pic on the bottom right makes it appear that Roger is lettin' a big rump rooster rip and you look like you're saying. "Everybody run! The great gas of Rogerass is approaching! Run!"

By the way, who took those pictures?

Your musical taste is superb. My husband would give a mint for that KISS poster. He never grew up. Don't. Grow up, that is. Oh, I think I accidentally had that doo in the early 80's - my first perm. I had no idea what a poodle perm would do to naturally curly hair. I suppose I looked French for awhile, though. You pull it off MUCH better, dude.

Love the 'fro! LOL Maybe one day I'll rediscover all my old photo albums in the attic and be able to post a Way Back Wednesday as well.

Steph ~ Wallpaper? You mean the Led Zeppelin and Kiss posters, not the boring ships, right?

Library Mama ~ Or maybe Juan Epstein looks like FreeThinker?

Greta ~ Yeah, a serious Wayback ... serious FUN!

Jab@BZT ~ You had the same Zep poster? Cool! If you have a photo, you should scan and post it! These photos were taken by my sister in her room. My room had every square inch, and much of the ceiling, covered with similar posters including the "centerfolds" from Hit Parader and Circus magazines.

Oh, and Roger isn't mocking a monster fart (although it could look that way). He's mocking a kick-to-the-nuts (mine!). In the first photo, he has the headphones jacked into my guitar. In the second photo he is pulling a hairbrush from his ear. We got much of our humor from Monty Python's Flying Circus in those days.

FridaysWeb ~ Your husband must still be a standing member of the KISS Army, just like me!

My 'fro is all natural - never had a perm (except a straight perm, once, which kinked right back up the next day!)

Lilly ~ You are too kind! Thanks!

VV ~ You really should dig up your old photos, scan 'em and post 'em. Memories will flood back once you write about them!

i thought roger shaved all his body hair and slipped into seclusion in cambridge, england prior to his recent death at age 60.

why was rog famous again? did it have anything to do with the disco demolition?

Awesome. How did you get the hat to stay on the fro without weighing it down? Was this before or after you were the front man for Thin Lizzy?
